The city was completed in eight years. Also this city is a paradise for shoppers; Jaipur offers jewelry, carpets & rugs, textiles and other good deals.

Day 4: Jaipur (B)

This morning we will visit Amber Fort. Perched on a hill 11 Km from Jaipur and nestling among the Aravali Hills is the historic fort-palace. Set in a picturesque background, the splendid Amber Fort (Jaigarh) was built in 1600 by Raja Man Singh, commander-in-chief of the Mughal army during Akbar’s reign and greatest general of medieval India. There is a timeless appeal to Jaipur’s colorful bazaars where one can shop for Rajasthani handlooms and trinkets.

Afternoon set out on a half day city tour visiting Hawa Mahal (photo-stop), the Observatory-Jantar Mantar and City Palace. The Hawa Mahal or “Palace of Winds” was built in 1799 to enable the ladies of the royal household to watch street processions while remaining in a strict state of purdah. Between 1727 and 1734 Maharajah Jai Singh II of Jaipur constructed five astronomical observatories in west central India. The observatories or “Jantar Mantars” as they are commonly known, incorporate multiple buildings of unique form, each with a specialized function for astronomical measurement. Conceived and designed by Jai Singh, the City Palace, is a fine blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Chandra Mahal is still the residence of the present royal family.

Day 5: Jaipur – Agra (B)

This morning, drive to Agra – the city of the world’s famous Taj Mahal, enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri – the mysterious ghost city founded by the Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great in the late 16th century and capital of the Mughal Empire from 1581 to 1595. The city occupies a sandstone ridge and the area around it is enclosed within a seven-mile-long wall. We’ll stroll about the fort and palace before continuing our journey to Jaipur. Built by Emperor Akbar on the west bank of the Yamuna, Agra Fort first took shape between 1565 and 1573 and thereafter structures within it were added by successive emperors. Today the towering red-sandstone ramparts house a variety of palace apartments, representing the different building styles of Akbar and his grandson Shah Jahan;the Jahangiri Mahal, the palace that housed the women of the court, the Anguri Bagh (Grape Garden), Khas Mahal, Musamman Burj, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal and Mina Masjid (Gem Mosque), Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience) and the Machchhi Bhavan (Fish House).
