Itinerary

Day 1

Chiang Mai

Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Later this afternoon, begin your exploration of Northern Thailand with a visit to a peaceful forest temple, renowned for its serene atmosphere and ancient meditation tunnels. Surrounded by towering trees, shaded pathways and centuries-old Buddhist teachings, this unique sanctuary has long been a place of contemplation and spiritual retreat, offering a quiet introduction to the city's rich religious heritage.

As the sun begins to set, continue to the sacred mountain temple overlooking Chiang Mai. One of the city's most revered landmarks, the temple offers sweeping panoramic views across the old city, surrounding countryside and distant mountains. In the soft evening light, the golden chedi glows against the fading sky while the sound of temple bells and evening chants creates a peaceful atmosphere, making sunset one of the most memorable times to experience this important pilgrimage site.

After returning to your hotel, the remainder of the evening is at leisure. Just a short walk away, Chiang Mai's lively Night Bazaar is well worth exploring. More than a shopping destination, Thailand's night markets are an integral part of daily life, where residents gather to dine, socialise and browse stalls selling regional handicrafts, textiles and everyday goods. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and discover the flavours, craftsmanship and welcoming spirit that make Chiang Mai's evening markets so distinctive.

Day 2

Chiang Mai – Si Satchanalai (B,L,D)

Depart Chiang Mai and journey south towards the historic Sukhothai region. Along the way, stop in Lamphun to visit one of Northern Thailand's most revered temples, an important monument of the former Hariphunchai Kingdom. Admire its magnificent golden chedi, elegant Lanna architecture and the world's largest bronze gong, all reflecting centuries of Buddhist devotion and regional craftsmanship.

As the journey continues, the scenery gradually transforms from the forested mountains and rolling hills of Northern Thailand to fertile valleys, rice paddies and rural landscapes dotted with traditional villages. Arrive at a Karen community supported by Royal Development Projects, where local traditions and sustainable livelihoods have been carefully preserved. This authentic community offers meaningful insight into the everyday lives of the Karen people, whose culture is closely connected to agriculture, craftsmanship and the natural environment. Accompanied by a local guide, discover the village's renowned cotton weaving tradition and learn how generations of artisans continue to produce beautifully handcrafted textiles using time-honoured techniques.

Continue towards Si Satchanalai, a peaceful historic town nestled along the banks of the Yom River. Closely linked to the origins of the Sukhothai Kingdom, the region is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, ancient monuments and tranquil riverside setting. Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening in one of Thailand's most historically significant yet unspoilt destinations. A delightful dinner is served at your hotel.

Day 3

Si Satchanalai (B,L,D)

Begin the morning with a visit to one of the oldest and most significant temples in the region, beautifully situated on the banks of the Yom River. Predating the Sukhothai Kingdom, this important archaeological site reflects the area's early Khmer influence and marks the transition between two great civilisations. Continue to Si Satchanalai Historical Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns. Once an important royal, administrative and religious centre of the Sukhothai Kingdom, Si Satchanalai played a key role in the development of early Thai art, architecture and craftsmanship. Wander among remarkably preserved temples, monasteries and ancient ruins set within a peaceful natural landscape, offering a fascinating insight into the origins of Thailand's first kingdom.

Continue your discovery with a visit to a traditional gold workshop, where local artisans preserve the centuries-old goldsmithing techniques for which Si Satchanalai is renowned. Gold has long held a special place in Thai culture, symbolising prosperity, merit and devotion, and remains an integral part of religious ceremonies, royal traditions and family celebrations. Admire the meticulous craftsmanship behind finely handcrafted jewellery inspired by designs that have been passed down through generations. After Lunch, return to your accommodation for a leisurely afternoon.

Relax in the peaceful riverside gardens, explore the surrounding historic community by bicycle, or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere that makes Si Satchanalai one of Thailand's most charming heritage towns. As evening falls, savour a delicious dinner showcasing local flavours in the tranquil setting of your riverside retreat.

Day 4

Si Satchanalai – Chiang Mai (B,L)

After breakfast, depart Si Satchanalai and enjoy a scenic drive back towards Chiang Mai. The journey passes through fertile plains before gradually climbing into the forested hills of Northern Thailand, with ever-changing landscapes of rice paddies, rural villages and mountain scenery accompanying the route.

En route, stop in Lampang, a historic trading town long associated with Thailand's ceramic industry. Thanks to the region's high-quality kaolin clay, Lampang became the country's leading centre for ceramic production, and its iconic hand-painted rooster bowls have become a symbol of Thai craftsmanship. Visit a local ceramic museum and workshop to discover the history of this distinctive industry, from traditional techniques to the skilled artisans who continue to preserve this important cultural heritage.

Continue to the city's historic riverside quarter, where beautifully restored wooden shop houses line a charming walking street that once formed the commercial heart of Lampang. Nearby, admire the elegant white bridge spanning the Wang River, a landmark that reflects the town's prosperity during the early 20th century and remains one of its most recognisable symbols. Your exploration concludes at a remarkable temple recognised with a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for its outstanding conservation. Blending Lanna, Burmese and Chinese architectural influences, the temple beautifully illustrates the diverse cultural exchanges that have shaped Northern Thailand over the centuries.

Arrive in Chiang Mai in the late afternoon and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Whether you choose to relax at your hotel, discover one of the city's excellent restaurants or soak up the atmosphere at a local café or bar, the evening is yours to enjoy.
