Paro - Taktsang Monastery (B)
Today, drive 6km from Paro and hike approx. 2.5 hours to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery. For the Bhutanese Buddhists, this is a holy pilgrimage, however this mystical trek can be experienced by all. For a tourist, a hike up to the viewpoint opposite the monastery is exhausting, yet thrilling and mystical. The Taktsang monastery clings on dauntingly beautiful vertical cliff at 9680ft.
Once descended, you will be taken on a citywide tour of Paro, visiting Bhutan’s national museum, a fascinating place housed in an old watchtower above the huge Paro Dzong (monastery). This will be followed by visit to Rinpung Dzong - a monastery which is the seat of the district administration as well as the home for the monastic school today. Later visit Drugyel Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang and a typical Bhutanese farm house on the way back.
